Supplier for the aerospace industry

Mifa is happy to take on the responsibility for the entire process when developing and producing aluminium and magnesium components. Our technology, knowledge, and experience enable us to produce highly complex profiles made of aluminium, magnesium, and other materials for the aerospace industry, to an accuracy of ±0.02 mm. Thanks to our combination of precision extrusion, machining, surface treatment, and assembly, we can reduce total production time, which is certainly essential for the aerospace industry. Since we produce the whole component, we also assume responsibility for the components we deliver. We have already supplied customers in the aerospace industry such as Airbus, Stelia, FACC, and Liebherr.

Coordination of extrusion, machining, and surface treatment

Over the years, we have developed to become an efficient processor of highly accurate and complex components for the aerospace industry. Through our knowledge and experience of the aerospace industry, we know what works and what doesn't. This enables us to make significant improvements to aerospace components. The way in which we coordinate the extrusion process, processing, and surface treatment is a very important aspect in this regard. If the extrusion can be produced accurately from the start, we save considerable machining time. Experience has taught us which minimum wall thicknesses are needed for extrusion profiles when machining various materials.

Complete aerospace components

We write the software and make our own moulds for the CNC machines. Every profile is unique and often requires a specific processing technique, especially for visible surfaces. We therefore use CAD/CAM programs such as Solid Works, Solid Edge, and Unigraphics. Mifa makes life easier for its aerospace customers by delivering a complete component. This is why we have special techniques available in house for the aerospace industry. These techniques include assembling, bending, brushing, belt grinding, sealing, soldering, welding, and masking. Our knowledge and experience enable us to use and combine the right technologies for each aerospace product.

An example of a component for the aerospace industry

For one of our customers we are making the housing for an aircraft's operating system. As the conductivity of electricity is a very important aspect, the customer wanted the product to be made from one piece where possible and contain a minimum number of joints. The customer originally made the product from bent sheet material to which various parts were then attached. As this involved a lot of manual work and assembly work, no two products were completely identical, and the product contained many joints. In close consultation with the engineers, we looked at the possibility of making the housing with a combination of extrusion and processing methods. This led to a creative solution comprising three extrusion parts that fit together seamlessly by means of a dovetail joint and to which only four separate components are attached. Together with the customer we developed a stable process that produces identical products and significantly limits assembly time. This results in a better end product at reduced costs.

Multi-core profiles

Cores or holes. They can be necessary for the profile's function, or useful for reducing the weight. Mifa excels at extruding complex profiles with many small cores.
